Policy Seminar

"The public policy seminar was excellent, both in training up needed skills and getting firsthand accounts from professionals in the policy arena." - 2020 UNM MPP Graduate

Policy Seminar (1-3 Credits). The Policy Seminar is offered as PUBP 501. The Policy Seminar is an ongoing 1-3 credit course. Students will complete a total of 7 credits in the Seminar: two consecutive semesters for 3 credits each the first year in the program, and again for 1 credit in the student's final semester in the MPP.

This course bridges the academic - policy worlds by training students in systematic policy analysis that considers historical and community context, evaluates the evidence base, and explores innovative approaches. The Seminar curriculum includes case studies in policy creation and implementation, and guest speakers from the New Mexico policy community. The Seminar also provides support for writing the Policy Report and a venue for presenting it.
