This page is a guide to finding policy jobs — not a listing of current openings. The sites listed below are stable platforms and job boards relevant to MPP graduates. The MPP program also shares job opportunities as they come in through our student and alumni mailing lists, so make sure your contact information is current with Carol Anda at canda@unm.edu.

Tips for Your Search

Start with keywords. Knowing what to search for makes a big difference. Try these terms to get started: policy, advocacy, legislative, legislature, research, analyst, policy analyst, public policy, policy advisor, legislative assistant, legislative aide, public administration, political science, policy coordinator, policy manager. Refine from there based on what comes up.

Search by title, not description. When searching job boards, use the advanced search option and filter by job title rather than description. Searching the description will surface a large number of unrelated positions — healthcare, finance, and others — that happen to mention policy-adjacent terms.

Be strategic with broad terms. Terms like "research" and "analyst" will return a wide range of results. Be prepared to sort through them, or add a second keyword to narrow the field — for example, "policy analyst" or "legislative analyst."

Use your network. Many policy jobs are filled through relationships. Tap into your MPP cohort, your professors, your Evaluation Lab community partners, and the MPP Community Advisory Board. Let people know you are looking.
