On October 19th Charles Sallee came to UNM's MPP program to discuss policy creation, implementation, and funding. In particular, he discussed the Results First approach used in the Legislative Finance Committee to evaluate the efficacy and cost of programs and policies. Mr. Sallee provided great insight into how to weigh the costs and benefits of a policy option, as well as how the Legislative Finance Committee makes its recommendations to the Legislature.
Mr. Sallee has worked for the Legislative Finance Committee since 2005 conducting and overseeing program evaluations of state agencies, higher education, and public schools. He also conducted evaluations for the Texas Legislature at the Sunset Commission. Some of his work has led to major policy changes or cost savings in the areas of Medicaid, higher education, adult and juvenile corrections, public schools, and workers compensation. He also has experience providing direct human services, including to people with developmental disabilities and abused children.
Mr. Sallee grew up in New Mexico and earned a BSW from New Mexico State University and MSW-Administration from Texas State University-San Marcos.
